It was 1670 i.e. the time almost 341 years ago when the 10th Guru of Sikhs Gobind Singh visited Ambala on his way to battle field of Delhi where he had to confront Akbar. The Guru decided to stay at Ambala On He met a Pir carrying a hawk at a place in Ambala. It is said that Pir asked the Guru to conduct a fight between his own hawk, and the one Guru Gobind used to carry over his shoulder. Guru Gobind Singh took no time to understand the wicked intentions of the Pir and declined his proposal. The Guru then suggested the Pir to conduct a fight of Pir’s hawk with two sparrows sitting at a branch of a nearby tree. The Pir laughed at the idea and argued that sparrows are a diet for hawks . The Guru , however, was firm on his stand. Pir finally agreed and the Guru gestured those two sparrows to come for a fight with the hawk. The sparrows immediately followed the instructions of the Guru. Both the sparrows got the hawk badly injured. The hawk met his death about 1 Km away from the site. This made Guru Gobind Singh utter his famous words: Chirion se main baaz turaun, Tabe Gobind Singh naam kahaun. (It is when I make sparrows fight hawks that I am called Gobind Singh). A gurudwara was built at the site. Located near the district court, Badshahi Baag Gurudwara irresistibly catches the fancy of the visitors coming to Ambala .
