This important temple of Ambala stands tall apart in the count of temples, and is one of the most important religious sites of Ambala. Established in the mid half of the nineteenth century, this temple is known for its grandeur as the temple a huge idol of Lord ardhanarishwar which symbolizes a universal balance of male and female forms of man. Right side depicts Parvati whereas the left side shows Lord Siva. Hathikhana Kailash temple has one cow stable besides a Siva Lingam, a Nandee idol. The entrance of the temple has idols of Lord Surya at the center of top arcade. Pillars on either sides of the main gate have idols of Jai and Vijay in the front side; Nandi, Bhrangi at the rear side-the four being divine gatekeepers at lord Siva’s house. The present Mahant Manmohan Das is the fifth in the lineage of Mahants. The temple is named so because of its historical significance as a place where Mogul soldiers ridden by elephants used to stay in the mid of their journeys.
